Description

This virtual “Imaging of Musculoskeletal Trauma” course will guide you through the interpretation, grading and classification of traumatic injuries involving the upper extremity, lower extremity and axial skeleton. Injuries that are easily overlooked and subtle imaging findings that indicate serious underlying soft tissue injury will be emphasized. The course will highlight the need for a multimodality approach to trauma imaging illustrating radiography, CT and MRI findings and provide guidance regarding the appropriate indications for advanced imaging following trauma. Selected pitfalls that simulate skeletal injury will be illustrated.

After completing this MSK radiology course you will improve your ability to recognize and classify musculoskeletal trauma across a range of imaging modalities and provide more comprehensive and relevant reports for your emergency, trauma and orthopaedic teams.

TMC Academy online fellowships are held in a virtual classroom environment on Zoom. Participants are encouraged to engage in discussions making use of their camera and microphone in order to recreate the face-to-face experience. In this small group environment among your peers, you are free to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn together with the support of the radiologist mentor.

Testimonials:

“Great overview with a structured guide through grading, classifications, and interpretation of traumatic MSK injuries.”
Dr. Inga Kallerhoff (Fellow, June 2023)

“I learned a lot from the clinical cases that were presented. I think the course had very pertinent information.”
Dr. Vania Martins (Fellow, June 2023)

“This MSK trauma fellowship is unquestionably very interesting, highly engaging, and exceptionally educational, and Dr. Pathria's unbeatable knowledge and teaching abilities make it possible to gain a great deal from the course materials and tools that are brimming with gems and unmatched insights.”
Dr. Olusola Patrick Bello, Consultant Emergency Radiologist at both Telemedicine Clinic, UK, and Scanditouch Radiology, Canada (Fellow, July 2022)

Learning objectives

  • Recognize joint effusion, identify common fractures and understand patterns of malalignment at the major appendicular joints
  • Understand patterns of spinal injury in the cervical and thoracolumbar spine
  • Classify injuries of the axial and appendicular skeleton using the most widely used classification systems

Programme will include

  • Multi-modality illustration of normal anatomy, common musculoskeletal injuries and pitfalls using radiography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging
  • Examples of commonly missed axial and appendicular skeletal injuries and subtle imaging findings that indicate serious underlying musculoskeletal trauma
  • Ample case-based and supplemental material illustrating important imaging findings and clinical classification systems
  • Mentor-led group case discussion
  • Plenty of time for Q&A with the radiologist mentor
  • Access to slides, session recordings, and other materials via the TMCA online platform
  • Certificate of attendance - An application has been made to the UEMS/EBR for CME accreditation of this event

Level

Level II - General radiologist
This musculoskeletal radiology course is designed primarily for general radiologists involved in the interpretation of trauma imaging studies in the urgent care, emergency room or trauma unit setting. Radiologists focusing in emergency interpretation will find the course particularly useful for gaining a better understanding of musculoskeletal anatomy, the role of advanced imaging in injury and the information needed for clinical decision-making in the acute care and trauma unit setting. Musculoskeletal radiologists with an interest in trauma will benefit from understanding the optimal use of our entire range of modalities and gain a better understanding of current classification systems in skeletal injury.
