Wrist, Hand and Elbow Imaging Fellowship
On this 3-day fellowship in Barcelona, participants will benefit from the expertise of MSK radiologist Dr. Phillip Tirman's through lectures and several detailed case discussions on Wrist and Elbow MRI. This interactive programme with a small group will give participants a chance to read cases individually and receive immediate feedback and advice from the radiologist mentor.

A successful fellowship will provide you with knowledge that can help you address your ongoing clinical challenges, as well as future pursuits.

This Wrist and Elbow MRI fellowship, taught by highly knowledgeable radiologist Dr. Phillip Tirman, will include an overview of MRI of the wrist and elbow with a daily presentation, individual case readings, and with group-based case read-outs.

With years of experience in the field in particular to sports radiology, Dr. Tirman comes prepared with his own case mix to share with you, containing a large variety of cases relevant to the topic which participants can also review on their own after the fellowship.

Participation in this fellowship, limited to a maximum of 8 radiologists, will enhance and strengthen your knowledge in musculoskeletal MRI interpretation. In this small group environment among your peers, you are free to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn together with the support of the radiologist mentor.

The fellowship will run during working hours (approximately 9:00 to 5:00pm) so participants will be free to explore the beautiful city of Barcelona in the evenings and weekend should you choose to extend your stay.

Learning Objectives
  • To describe the normal anatomy of the musculoskeletal system, specifically wrist and elbow MRI
  • To be familiar with some normal skeletal variants that mimic disease
  • To understand common imaging presentations of trauma involving the skeleton and soft tissue
  • To understand the imaging presentation of degenerative disorders of the musculoskeletal system and to appreciate their clinical relevance
  • To offer tools for a radiology report that satisfies the needs of the referring physician
Level
Level II - General radiologist

This is an intermediate level MSK training geared toward general radiologists (Level II). However, in a small group with plenty of one-on-one time with the radiologist mentor, there will be some flexibility within the programme for each participant.

Dr. Phillip Tirman is an internationally recognized MSK expert who subspecializes in the applications of Magnetic Resonance Imaging for evaluating orthopedic, sports medicine, and spine disorders. He is the co-author of three textbooks, including MRI OF THE SHOULDER and DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING: ORTHOPAEDICS. He has also authored and co-authored over sixty original scientific articles published in radiology and orthopedic literature. Having completed fellowship training in Magnetic Resonance Imaging at The Cottage Community Magnetic Resonance Center in Santa Barbara and the San Francisco Magnetic Resonance Center (SFMRC) in San Francisco, Dr. Tirman continued to practice and was then named Medical Director. He was subsequently recruited from SFMRC to the prestigious National Orthopedic Imaging Associates Group where he worked closely with Dr. David Stoller and Rusty Fritz and was the NOIA Fellowship director. Dr. Tirman has been a manuscript reviewer for Radiology, the American Journal of Roentgenology, and the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. He is a widely sought lecturer and has spoken at over fifty international meetings and has been a pioneer of continuing medical education utilizing the World Wide Web. Dr. Tirman is also a food and wine connoisseur and is the author of the popular book THE WINE AND FOOD LOVER’S DIET which was a James Beard award nominee.
