Description

With our expanding knowledge and increasing sophistication in stroke management, stroke imaging now represents a sizeable portion of acute emergency presentations and increasingly also in our day-to-day elective imaging. And although stroke imaging is part of the basic training of any neuroradiologist, not all are routinely exposed to its acute presentations which may be handled by the emergency team and some of us may have lagged on the ever-changing stroke protocols.

The fellowship is aimed at emergency and stroke radiologists, physicians or neurologists aiming for competency in the diagnosis of stroke or a neuroradiologist wanting to refresh/ update their knowledge in acute stroke management.

This neuroradiology fellowship includes an overview of stroke, a history of the development of our present knowledge in this area, advanced brain vascular anatomy, the CT and MRI parameters, and findings that will allow proper imaging and confident diagnosis in this area.

In addition to two lectures covering some theoretical aspects, much of the fellowship will be in the form of tutorials, including anonymised real radiological cases where the candidate will be challenged for a diagnosis and followed by a group discussion of the cases. Some tutorials will commence with a 15-minute presentation.

TMC Academy online radiology fellowships are held in a virtual classroom environment on Zoom. Participants are encouraged to engage in discussions making use of their camera and microphone to recreate the face-to-face experience. In this small group environment among your peers, you are free to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn together with the support of the radiologist mentor.

Accreditation and CME Certificate

TMC Academy is a European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) Trusted Provider.
An application has been made to the UEMS/EBR for CME accreditation of this radiology course.

Learning objectives

  • To revise and update the brain vascular anatomy and collateral circulation
  • To upgrade the knowledge needed to read complicated stroke CT and MRI scans by immersion in a learning environment without the distraction of daily work.
  • To become familiar and feel confident with stroke imaging techniques as encountered in daily practice.
  • To discriminate between stroke and its mimics and avoid pitfalls.
  • To learn how to construct an informative report that will address the needs of the referring clinician.

Programme will include

  • Lectures discussing Advanced Brain Vascular Anatomy, causes and pre-disposing factors for the development of stroke.
  • Tutorials discussing specific topics including stroke mimics and many of its complications. This will take the form of individual case reading and interpretation of the provided cases.
  • Group case discussion of the selected cases
  • Access to presentation slides, session recordings, and other course materials on the TMC Academy platform
  • Access to discussed cases prior to and after the fellowship
  • Your own personal dashboard and course materials on TMCA online platform
  • Certificate of attendance - An application has been made to the UEMS/EBR for CME accreditation of this event

Level

Level II - General radiologist
The programme is designed for levels II (General Radiologist) and III (Neuroradiologist and Stroke/Vascular Neurologist and Vascular Neurosurgeon).

Group Discounts for Radiology Education
TMC Academy is happy to offer group discounts to support radiology education within hospitals or practices. Please email us at academy.info@telemedicineclinic.com for details.

Technical requirements

The training platform runs entirely in the browser but the online PACS places a considerable load on the hardware and internet connection when viewing and loading cases.
